Neophytos Charalambides

Minister of Health, Republic of Cyprus

Neophytos Charalambides is the Minister of Health of the Republic of Cyprus, having assumed office in December 2025. He holds political responsibility for the formulation, coordination, and oversight of national health policy, with a focus on strengthening public health, improving access to quality healthcare, and enhancing the resilience and sustainability of the health system. His portfolio includes health legislation, public health and prevention, pharmaceutical policy, health workforce policy, and the institutional oversight of key health bodies, including the State Health Services Organisation (OKYpY) and the Health Insurance Organisation (GESY). Prior to his appointment as Minister, Mr Charalambides practised law for over two decades, specialising in personal injury litigation, civil litigation, and criminal law. He is a Barrister-at-Law of the Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn and a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (UK). His legal career includes extensive courtroom experience, the drafting of complex agreements, and the provision of legal advice to local and international clients. Mr Charalambides has long-standing experience in public life and local government. He served as Deputy Mayor of Limassol Municipality, as an elected member of the Limassol Municipal Council, and in several senior positions within the Democratic Party (DI.KO), including Vice President, a position he holds to date. He has represented Limassol Municipality in European and international fora and has participated in high-level policy dialogue initiatives. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree (LLB) and a Master’s Degree in Law (LLM).
