Nikolaos Zamboglou

Chief Executive Officer, German Oncology Center and the German Medical Institute

Professor Nikolaos Zamboglou was born in Limassol, Cyprus. He received his degree in Physics from RWTH Aachen in 1974, followed by a PhD in Physics from the University of Düsseldorf in 1977. He later pursued studies in Medicine, earning his medical degree in 1984 and his PhD in Medicine in 1989 from the University of Essen. In 1992, he was appointed Professor and Director of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the Academic Hospital of Offenbach, Goethe University Frankfurt, a position he held until 2016. Since 1993, he has also served as an affiliated Research Professor at the National Technical University of Athens, within the Institute of Electronic Systems and Computers. From 2003 to 2005, Professor Zamboglou served as President of the German Society of Radiation Oncology. In recognition of his scientific contributions, he was elected Corresponding Member of the Academy of Athens in 2010 and named Honorary Member of the Austrian Society of Radiation Oncology in 2012. In 2015, he received the prestigious Alfred-Breit Prize, the highest honor of the German Society of Radiation Oncology. In 2017, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the Cyprus University of Technology. Professor Zamboglou currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of the German Oncology Center and the German Medical Institute. In 2024, he was awarded the Bundesverdienstkreuz am Bande (Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon) by the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, one of Germany’s highest civilian distinctions
